Tanya Hamner

Tanya Hamner is a photographer, designer and agricultural communications educator with professional experience across visual media.
Tanya Hamner is an Assistant Professor of Practice in Agricultural Communications and Journalism in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communications at Texas A&M University. Her background includes professional experience in photography, journalism, graphic design and media production.
Hamner earned a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from the Academy of Art University. Before joining Texas A&M, she worked in several areas of the communications industry. She served as sports editor for The Sheridan Press and later worked as a graphic designer for AlphaGraphics. Her media production experience also includes working with Helix on in-car camera production for Skip Barber Racing, where she worked with photography, video and GoPro camera systems.
Hamner is also a professional rodeo photographer and has photographed rodeos and western events throughout the United States. Her experience includes serving as an official photographer for the NFR Open, Mountain States Circuit Finals, Greeley Stampede and Cheyenne Frontier Days. Her photography focuses heavily on rodeo, agriculture and the American West.
Her photography has received national and international recognition and has been exhibited in the United States and abroad, including exhibitions at Brick Lane Gallery in London and in Italy. Her work has also received awards in international photography competitions.
At Texas A&M, Hamner teaches agricultural photography, design for agricultural media, media production and editing. She uses her professional experience in photography, graphic design, journalism, AP style, video production and visual communication to bring industry practices into her courses. Her classes emphasize hands-on learning and give students opportunities to create work that can be used in professional portfolios and beyond the classroom.
Hamner’s teaching and creative work focus on agricultural photography, visual communication, design and experiential learning. She is particularly interested in connecting classroom instruction with professional experiences and creating opportunities for students to share their work with audiences outside the university.
